Health Insurance

CEU requires that all enrolled students have adequate health insurance for the duration of their enrollment and residence in Hungary. Failure to fulfill the requirements may result in the termination of enrollment.

CEU provides access to a Health Insurance Plan through Generali-Providencia Insurance Company. All international students with CEU financial aid (full or partial CEU fellowship, full or partial tuition waiver package) will receive this Plan (students from EU and EEA member states see more information below). Students who do not receive financial aid have the option to purchase this Plan or an individual plan from another provider. Hungarian students are eligible for health care provided by the Hungarian State (TAJ).

Students who do not intend to use the CEU Plan provided by Generali Providencia must submit, immediately upon arrival, evidence of membership in an alternative insurance plan that covers medical services in Hungary. In case students bring their own alternative insurance, it must comply with the minimum standards of the CEU Health Insurance Plan.

Accompanying Family Members

International students who plan to bring family members (parents, partners, spouses and children) to Hungary for the duration of their studies need to bear in mind that the Generali-Providencia Health Insurance Plan is not available to family members. In such cases, students are expected to have the appropriate financial resources to cover the cost of any arising medical treatment for their family members while they are residing in Hungary or CEU strongly recommends that they purchase adequate health insurance in their home country for the family members (current experience shows that insurance costs are considerably lower in the home country). A limited number of insurance providers in Hungary offer services for foreign students and for their dependents. The following companies are recommended in such cases:

1. All international students are encouraged to consult the terms and conditions of the Generali-Providencia Health Insurance Plan in advance, with special attention to services provided and exclusions. For instance, treatment related to, or resulting from, illnesses or accidents already known at the commencement of the coverage period, except for those which can be treated within the scope of the basic medical service (i.e., by a specialist of the Medical Center), is not covered by the Generali-Providencia Health Insurance Plan. Students with pre-existing medical conditions are advised to consult specialists in their home country and obtain adequate or additional insurance as necessary.

2. All relevant medical materials (the Medical Questionnaire which are sent to all students who have confirmed acceptance of a place of study) must be completed carefully and submitted to the Medical Center before the registration period. Submitted medical materials are treated as confidential information.

3. Hungarian students are eligible for health care provided by the State (TAJ). They must present their "TAJ" card in order to register the card number in the records of the Medical Center.

Frequently Asked Questions about Medical Data

Who processes my medical data?

The Adenium J. V. Kft. and the Generali Providencia Insurance Company shall handle and process your medical data, the Medical Questionnaire, and all other related documents.

Why do I have to complete the Medical Questionnaire?

First of all, by filling out this questionnaire you ensure that you will be eligible to enroll in the Health Insurance Plan suggested by CEU and provided by Generali Providencia Insurance Company or receive treatment from CEU’s Health Provider at the Medical Center located at CEU (Nador 11 Bldg. Courtyard).

It is important for you to fill it out because the doctors at the Medical Center should know about your previous illnesses, if any, in order that you receive adequate medical treatment. Also, the Generali-Providencia Insurance Company is entitled to know the pre-existing conditions in case they have to reimburse any costs of medical treatment.

Who prepared the Medical Questionnaire?

The "Adenium J. V. Kft." and "Generali-Providencia" Insurance Company prepared the Medical Questionnaire.

Are the medical records accessible by CEU?

No. The medical records and medical data can only be accessed by the Medical Center. They handle the data, collect it, and archive the Medical Questionnaire.

To whom do I have to send my Medical Questionnaire?

You have to send your Medical Questionnaire to the Medical Center. CEU does not process any medical data.

Is the completed Medical Questionnaire a pre-condition for my admission?

No. The Medical Questionnaire is not a pre-condition to be admitted to CEU. You receive this document with the second Admission Package when you are already admitted to CEU.

Why do I have to complete the Medical Questionnaire in my home country?

The Medical Questionnaire should be completed by your General Practitioner (family doctor) in your home country because this shows your medical history throughout your entire life (i.e., allergy, vaccinations, epilepsy, heart problems, etc.) - not only your present health condition. All this is done in your interest so that you receive a proper medical examination and treatment if needed.
