Maria Sharmina
Maria obtained her first graduate degree at the Far-Eastern National University, Russia, specialising in Global Economy and International Management. As an assistant economist-intern, she worked in a state-owned enterprise when she was accepted for a Master’s programme in Economics in Central European University, Budapest, Hungary. At the end of the programme’s first year, she became involved into research activities of Centre for Climate Change and Sustainable Energy Policy as a junior researcher. After obtaining her Master’s degree in Economics, Maria worked as a guest scientist in the Institute of Energy Research at Joanneum Research, Austria. She is currently based at the University of Manchester, School of Earth, Atmospheric and Environmental Sciences, and is working closely with the Tyndall Research Centre for Climate Change Research. Her PhD work seeks to address Russia’s own emission targets and budgets within the context of a redeveloping economy and the overarching global climate change objectives.
