We are pleased to announce the opening of the new Comparative Masculinities Film Series and Discussion Group. This forum aims to bring together CEU students and faculty interested in critically examining men and masculinities in different contexts. While the social sciences have long involved men talking to men about men, only recently did the scholarly and public discourse shift to talk about men as men, that is, as engendering and engendered subjects. Informed by advances in gender studies, this discussion group will address key topics in masculinity studies, such as the crisis of hegemonic masculinity, homosociality and homosexuality, masculinity and violence, religion and patriarchy, masculinities and femininities etc...

The group is designed as a student-run initiative. It will be led by a student coordinator (Frank Karioris, GS) and by a faculty sponsor (Daniel Monterescu, SOC). We would like to invite you to send your comments and suggestions for future activities to Karioris_Frank@ceu-budapest.edu .

Our first meeting will take place on Friday, November 16, at 5:30 PM in Zrinyi 14, room 411A. The session will feature the screening of Yossi & Jagger (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0334754/) -- a provocative Israeli film, which tells the troubled love story between two soldiers stationed in an Israeli outpost on the Lebanese border. The film reveals the gendered violence embedded in militaristic societies and the challenges facing gay soldiers.

Wine and pogacsas will be served....
