Executive Programme for Senior University Leaders
Concept
Over the last few years, the European Centre for Strategic Management of Universities (ESMU) has been running a series of senior leadership and management workshops for university leaders and managers. These programmes attract a large number of participants.
In February 2012, ESMU will team up with Central European University (CEU) to organize a special high level executive programme in Budapest for senior university leaders. This programme will focus exclusively on actual needs faced by universities in Central and Eastern Europe in the context of the economic crisis. It will look at recent and planned new developments in Europe and in the European higher Education Area (EHEA), as well as at the needs and challenges resulting from an increasing exposure to phenomena arising from the globalization of higher education. This course is offered in the context of the MODERN European higher education modernization platform (www.highereducationmanagement.eu).
Aims
The program aims to provide a place for interactive peer learning and exchange on matters relevant for leaders of higher education institutions and an opportunity to meet higher education experts from the European Commission and other European organizations focusing on higher education management and policy.
Format
The course will be organized as an interactive executive program, allowing participants to discuss pressing issues in their universities, taking into account national, regional, and global trends and developments, with input from international experts. The focus will be on discussing real challenges, as well as on learning about practical ways to address them.
Participation
The number of participants is limited to 25. The fee of 1800 Euro includes all documentation, accommodation, meals, transfers to activities and a Budapest sightseeing trip.
Applicants
The target audience is senior university leaders from the extended Central and Eastern European region from Rectors to Vice-Rectors or equivalent positions. The programme will be particularly valuable for those senior university leaders eager to gain an in-depth understanding of key issues critical to modern university governance, leadership and management in increasingly competitive global environments.
Location and Date
The executive program will be organized in Budapest at the Central European University, a postgraduate university accredited both in Hungary and the United States. The course will take place from Sunday, 12 February 2012 (day of arrival and Welcome Dinner) until Friday, 17 February 2012 (with the farewell lunch).
Program
Over the week the programme covers a series of workshops relevant for university leaders:
> European policies in higher education,
> The Bologna Process,
> Financing of higher education,
> Classifications and rankings of universities,
> Management of research and innovation in higher education,
> Entrepreneurialism in universities.
Participants will also be asked to work in groups throughout the week on a group assignment
incorporating several of the topics covered in the program. Assignments will then be presented
during the last day in front of their peers and contributing experts.
