Hungarian Scientific Research Fund calls for proposals (OTKA)

Type K and NK research grants

Objectives:
Supporting basic research activities in promising, forward-looking projects which provide professional development opportunities for early stage researchers.

General conditions:
Eligible applicants have a PhD degree and have been associated with a Hungarian research institute.

Eligible costs:
- research costs - equipment, reference material
- personnel costs for the employment of PhD students, postdoctoral researchers
- travel costs, conference participation costs
- publication costs
- overhead costs - up to an extent of 15% of the total project costs

Timeline:
Application deadline online: 15 September, 2009
Start date of research: February 1, 2010 - September 1, 2010

Types of calls:

K (kutatási/research)
- aims to support experienced researchers' projects
- maximum duration: 4 years
- maximum budget: HUF 6-10 M (EUR 25,000-42,000 )/year

NK (nagyköltségű nemzetközi/high cost international)
- aims to support high cost, cooperative  projects that require significant acquisitions and the employment of postdoctoral researchers
- maximum duration: 4 years
- minimum budget: HUF  6-10 M (EUR 25.000-42.000 )/year

The proposals are to be submitted in English. (with type K  Hungarian is an option)
