Gender in EU-funded Research
Thursday, October 1, 2009 (9:00 - 17:00)
CEU Gellner Room

This one-day training session is intended for anybody interested in rendering research gender-sensitive: researchers, project managers, expert evaluators, etc. The sessions will provide practical guidance on how the gender dimension can be integrated in research, using clear examples of how gender is relevant to existing projects within the European Commission's Seventh Framework Program (FP7).

Participation is free, but registration is required
Trainers: Yellow Window consulting firm (Antwerp, Belgium), www.yellowwindow.be
Registration and more information: http://www.yellowwindow.be/genderinresearch/index_calendar.html

Program
* The morning is devoted to a general introduction to gender in research
* In the afternoon, there are two parallel sessions in which two specific research fields are addressed with practical exercises (cases).
          o Scientific fields addressed: Socio-economic sciences and the Humanities
          o Science-in-Society (this field covers: the place of science and technology in society, ethical issues, the evolving role of universities, women in science, science education, and science communication)

Training objectives

The objectives of the training are consistent with the double approach in FP7 towards gender equality in research:
* a more equal participation of men and women in research;
* the integration of gender or sex aspects into research topics.

Method

The method combines cognitive (knowledge-based) and inductive (experience-based) elements. The programme is constructed as an interactive workshop, where all participants have the opportunity to contribute actively to the session, creating a stimulating learning process.
