Latest QS Subject Ranking Lists three CEU Programs among World’s Best 200
According to the latest QS rankings by subject fields, released in July 2012, CEU’s programs in political science and international relations (which, at CEU, includes courses in public policy), sociology, and philosophy—similarly to last year—are among the world’s best. Furthermore, CEU is the only university in Hungary with programs among the best 200 in the 2012 subject rankings.
The survey by Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), a British firm specializing in education and preparing top-quality university rankings, shows that CEU’s political science and international relations program was again among the top 51-100 overall and therefore ranked in the same category as the Humbolt-Universitat zu Berlin, and the universities of Montreal and Amsterdam: http://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/world-university-rankings/2012/subject-rankings/social-science/politics-international-studies?page=2
CEU’s sociology program was this year included among the top 101-151 (up from 150-200 last year). It is one of only three in Central Europe in the top 200—along with the University of Vienna and Charles University in Prague: http://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/world-university-rankings/2012/subject-rankings/social-science/sociology?page=4
CEU’s philosophy program also again made it onto the top 101-150 list this year, in the same category as the University of Durham, the University of Hamburg and the University of Southern California: http://www.topuniversities.com/university-rankings/world-university-rankings/2012/subject-rankings/arts-humanities/philosophy?page=4
“No ranking can fully reflect the complexity of universities and educational programs, and the significant differences among different rankings are useful reminders that we should treat these results with caution. Having said this, I’m very proud that three of our programs have made it into the world’s best 200 according to the 2012 QS subject ranking: this is a significant achievement and it attests to the excellence of CEU programs” said Katalin Farkas, Provost/Academic Pro-Rector of CEU.
The QS World University Rankings currently considers over 2,000 and evaluates over 700 universities in the world, ranking the top 400. For more information, see http://www.iu.qs.com/university-rankings/world-university-rankings/.
