European Crisis Management: Responses by the European Council and the Council to the Economic and Financial Crisis

Carsten Pillath holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Cologne. He has worked in various positions at the German Federal Ministry of Finance from 1991 to 1998 and again from 2003 to 2008. During this time he was as an adviser to the German Executive Director at the IMF in Washington and served as Head of the Directorate General for Europe. From 1999 until 2003 he was Head of Group for Foreign Trade Policy and the G8 Sherpa staff, as well as Head of Group for Coordination of European Policy at the German Federal Chancellery. Since September 2008 he is Director General of the Economic and Social Affairs Directorate of the General Secretariat of the Council of the European Union in Brussels.
