It was Richard Attenborough's lifelong dream to bring the life story of Indian political and spiritual leader Mahatma Gandhi to the screen. When it finally reached fruition in 1982, the Oscar-winning Gandi was one of the most exhaustively thorough biopics ever made. It chronicles the life of Indian political leader and guru of nonviolent resistence Mohandas K. Gandhi whose moral courage inspired his nation to win independence from Great Britain. Winner of multiple Oscars, including Best Picture, Director, and Actor for Ben Kingsley's leading performance.
