Reviewing Approaches to Quality Assurance in Higher Education: Experiences, Challenges and Contexts

Professor Lazar Vlasceanu is currently the Head of the Department of Sociology at the University of Bucharest where he is managing a three-year project (2008-2011) focused on the reform of Doctoral education in Romania, but he also takes important posts at Romanian National Council, Council of the Romanian Agency and Presidential Commission. During his professional career he has worked (among others) for the UNESCO (UNESCO-CEPES) and the Romanian Ministry of Education, has published books and coordinated and implemented a large variety of projects related to higher education in Europe.
Professor Vlasceanu’s personal research is concentrated in four main areas-sociological research methodology, the governance and management of higher education, cultural transitions in modernity and social configurations, and patters of knowledge production and their relationships with changes in social stratification.
