Full description:

This course looks the complex ways in which religion affects political behavior in the sphere of international affairs. The course is structured in two broad sections. First, the seminar introduces students to theory regarding the different ways in which religion may impact relationships between countries, from the role of religion in the foundation of the modern system of nation states to the influence of faith on international law, among other issues. With these theoretical tools, the second part of the seminar examines concrete case studies that include some of the most prominent examples of religious influence on international politics, both in recent history and in the present time.
