Full description: 

The key objectives of the course are to:
• Deepen knowledge of key issues in environmental governance;
• Develop an understanding of the policy making process;
• Develop a critical understanding of environmental policy instruments;
• Develop an understanding of policy integration;
• Develop skills in writing policy-related reports, analyses and memoranda;
• Gain negotiating experience in role-playing governance simulations.


Knowledge and Understanding
Develop an understanding of the policy making process, environmental policy
instruments, and issues in environmental governance:
1. Understand the relationship between trade and other economic issues and
the environment in a policy development setting;
2. Understand how international environmental regimes work;
3. Understand the various ways in which policy agendas are set;
4. Understand the process of policy design;
5. Understand decision making for environmental policy;
6. Understand the processes and challenges of implementing environmental
policy;
7. Gain knowledge of the varieties of regulatory, economic and voluntary
environmental policy instruments.
Intellectual Skills Develop skills in:
1. Analysis of environmental policy processes;
2. Critical analysis of environmental policy instruments;
3. Analytical reading skills;
4. Developing defensible arguments in favour of and against environmental
policy options.

1. Writing policy related documents and communicating with policy makers;
