The Copenhagen summit in December 2009 is crucial to limit the global warming of our planet. Do you want to know the latest scientific evidence on the speed, scale, and the consequences of climate change? Are you interested in new technologies and policies to combat climate change?

We would like to offer you the unique opportunity to participate in a World Science Forum 2009 Satellite event – Conference “Facing the Future: the Climate Summit at Copenhagen and beyond”, organised jointly by the Swedish Embassy, Central European University, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences and the Ombudsman for Future Generations in Hungary.

You will have a chance to hear such internationally known scholars and speakers as:

  •    Dennis Meadows (Prof., Author of “Limits to Growth”, New Hampshire University, USA)
  • Anders Wijkman (Deputy Chair of the Rome Club and the Tällberg Foundation, MEP 1999-2009, Sweden)
  •     Diana Ürge-Vorsatz (Lead Expert of the 2007 Nobel Peace Prize co-winning IPCC, CEU, Hungary)

In the afternoon, you can choose one of the parallel workshops in which you are particularly interested:

1. Science:  Discuss the science of climate change and its impacts on our lives and our planet with Márton Jolánkai (Szent Istvan University) and Tamás Pálvölgyi (BME).

2. Technology: Do you want to know more about sustainable cities and buildings and the technologies that drive them? Find out more with Lena Neij (University of Lund, Sweden), Anders Jensen (CEO, Pannon GSM) and the Hungarian Green Building Council.

3. Policy:  What can governments and society do to promote environmental awareness and limit global warming? Join the discourse with Tomas Kåberger (Swedish Energy Agency) and Sándor Kerekes (Corvinus University).

4. Thinking about the Future: What should it mean? Bracing for impact or preparing for the unexpected?  Meet Dennis Meadows and Sándor Fülöp (Ombudsman for Future Generations) and discuss what we can do now to prepare for the future.

Come to Central European University (1051 Budapest, Nádor utca 9) on November 4, 2009 and join Hungarian and international students, scientists, policy makers and NGOs in advocating policies and measures to fight climate change! The conference language will be English.
