On April 25, author, journalist, and CEU Trustee Kati Marton discussed her book Wallenberg: Missing Hero on the occasion of the book's release in Hungarian and the centenary of Wallenberg's birth. CEU President and Rector John Shattuck credited Marton with educating him about Wallenberg some 17 years ago when they first met during the Dayton Peace Accords where Shattuck and Marton's late husband, diplomat Richard Holbrooke, were working to negotiate peace in the Balkans.

Hungary's Minister of State for Social Inclusion Zoltan Balog spoke about Hungary's Roma strategy at a CEU public lecture on March 29. CEU President and Rector John Shattuck noted that in addition to the role Balog plays in his government position, he is “a thoughtful and astute commentator and theorist.”

Balog, who is responsible for the Hungarian government’s Roma strategy, defines the issue as both a human rights matter and a social and economic imperative.

In 2011, CEU's Alumni Relations & Career Services and Development offices worked together with Bridges Across Borders South East Asia: Community Legal Education Initiative (BABSEA CLE) to establish a new scholarship award program for Legal Masters Human Rights Program students at CEU. Bruce Lasky, an alumnus (2003) of the LL.M.
