CEU Hosts US Ambassador and Hungarian Supreme Court Justice for International Women of Courage Award

Hungarian Supreme Court Justice Agnes Galajda was presented with the International Women of Courage Award on 4 March 2010 by the US Ambassador to Hungary, Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis. The presentation took place in the CEU Auditorium. The award honors women who have shown exceptional courage and leadership in the advancement of women's rights.

The ceremony began with a welcome address by Professor John Shattuck, President and Rector, CEU, followed by remarks from US Ambassador to Hungary, Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis and the presentation of the award to Agnes Galajda.

CEU Hosts International Women Of Courage Award

To mark International Women’s Day, Hungarian Supreme Court Justice Agnes Galajda will be presented tonight with the International Women of Courage Award, which honors women who have shown exceptional courage and leadership in women's rights and advancement.

This evening’s ceremony, sponsored by the US Embassy and CEU, will include a welcome address by CEU Rector John Shattuck, followed by remarks from US Ambassador to Hungary Eleni Tsakopoulos Kounalakis.

Judge Galajda has been a criminal judge since 1986.

CEU Hosts Workshop on Using Holocaust Testimonies in Teaching

This week CEU’s Curriculum Resource Center (CRC) is hosting a workshop for international academics on ways to teach Jewish history using the USC Visual History Archive of the Shoah Foundation, a database of 52,000 Holocaust survivor interviews now available through the CEU Library.

Holocaust Memorial Center Hosts Film Series

To mark the 65th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz this Wednesday, the Holocaust Memorial Center in Budapest is hosting a week-long film series, Holocaust-Film-Memory, featuring more than 12 documentary and fiction films, shown twice daily. Among the highlights, the Center will screen the world premier of the Finnish film The Colors of the Holocaust, which will be shown simulanteously in several cities around the world.

Public Interest Law Institute and CEU

An article on the Charles Mott Foundation website recently focused on Edwin Rekosh's efforts in the area of public interest law. Rekosh is the founder and executive director of the multinational Public Interest Law Institute (PILI), and this past summer tought a course at CEU Summer University: Teaching Law, Human Rights and Ethics.
