Scholar Speaks Wednesday on Economics and Politics in the Middle East
Professor Jimmy Weinblatt, Rector of Ben Gurion University, will speak Wednesday afternoon at CEU on the relationship between politics and economics in the Middle East, and the inter-dependence of the Israeli and Palestinian economies—a unique phenomenon for two states not at peace.
Weinblatt is a scholar of international trade with a doctorate in economics from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Before being named Rector at Ben Gurion in 2002, he served as Dean of the
Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (1995-2001), Director of the Monaster Center for Economic Research (1992-1994), and Chairman of the Department of Economics (1987-1989). He was Visiting Lecturer (1975-1977, 1979-1981) and Visiting Professor (1989-1990) at the University of Pennsylvania. Since 1997, he has been the Marsha and Kenneth Tucker Professor of Economic Development at Ben Gurion University.
Professor Howard Robinson, Provost/Academic Pro-Rector at CEU, will chair the event. The lecture begins at 4:30 in the Popper Room.
